Alamārī – Mani Jassal’s Resort 2017
Resort-wear Fashion Show
Date: Tuesday May 9th, 2017
Where: Airship37, 37 Parliament Street
A BIG congratulations to the gifted Mani Jassal and her eclectic team for hosting such an extravaganza. I wholeheartedly fell in love with the venue (Airship37); the serene photo booth; and the mesmerizing runway stage design. There is no doubt in my mind that a lot of sweat and tears went behind into executing this show. Mani’s team even handed out a package of program lineups, promotional flyers, sponsors/supporters mentions, and artist statements into this exquisite booklet that had a stunning image of a Moroccan door imprinted on it. And of course, I am grateful for the exclusive guest bag that had all sorts of fun goodies, including treats from Wake and Bake; surprise intricate earrings for MJ; and many more! A tremendous thank you for the event management crew for being accommodating and providing stellar customer service.
Mani’s inspiration behind the runway collection is drawn from her very own alamārī (from Punjabi, meaning “wardrobe/closet”), as well as Moroccan architecture and history. All these elements were incorporated into the runway stage design, decor, and the resort-wear line itself.
The opulent fabrics she used included: lace, organzas, neoprene, vegan leather, and raw silks. These pieces were further elevated to royalty through the Gota Patti embroidery, lucknovi and ‘chikan’ kari detailing, lace appliqué, fringes, and tassels.
Her collection also had few surprises that I didn’t anticipate from the designer in this line, but I absolutely adored the end result. In a sea of illuminating gowns and skirts seamlessly flowing down the runway, one of her models strutted in fitted trousers with fringes, tassels and sequins. Another glamorous model had her evening look unexpectedly styled with an electrifying bomber jacket.
